Alan Remele

Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Vocals

  • At age 11,  I was introduced to the trumpet thanks to my parents who always had a love and respect for music. 

  • Age 15, taught several trumpet students by bicycling to and from their house with my trumpet on the carrier attached to my bike. Age 15, played my first gig with the Verse-a-Tones, a combo my brother and I put together, at the local Moose Lodge near San Diego. 

  • Age 15 - 19 took private lessons with trumpet teacher Eddie Ramos, La Mesa, Ca.

  • Age 18-20 enrolled in the music program at Grossmont College, San Diego County. 

  • Age 20 Enlisted into the 15th Air Force Band at March AFB, Riverside, Ca. 

  • Age 21 married Judith who became my best critic in all my music endeavors.

  • Age 24 received my honorable discharge from the USAir Force. 

  • Age 24 Moved to Indio, Ca. and enrolled in the music program at College of the Desert, Palm Desert, Ca. 

  • Age 25 Accepted a full time position as Band Director at Dateland Junior High.

  • Age 25 worked many gigs in the Lower Desert area including a five night a week job at the Sheraton Hotel with a group called Jonny Gillick and the Showmen. 

  • Went on a month long tour in Europe with Rod Bayshore and several of his Indio High School Drama students. Dona Mara and Scott Smith were friends and entertainers in this group also. 

  • Age 28 Graduated from U of R with a Music Education Degree. 

  • Age 29 received my teaching credential from CSUSB Also joined a top 40  group called Your Kinda People( mostly Summer work). 

  • Age 28 accepted a position of Band Director at Etiwanda Middle School. 

  • Age 28-38 taught private trumpet lessons. 

  • Age 33 accepted a hourly position with Redlands Unified School District as elementary instrumental band teacher. 

  • Age 36 accepted a position as one of the Music Enrichment Teachers for the Elementary Schools. 

  • + Somewhere in these years I worked anywhere from two jobs a week to as many as six a week.

  • Also was hired as the Band Director of the Yucaipa Big Band which at that time was a class paid for by the Adult Education Program. 

  • I directed this band for about ten years. 

  • Age 40 hired as a Elementary Band Teacher with The Yucaipa Joint Unified School District. 

  • Age 46 hired as the first Band Director of Park View Middle School, Yucaipa. 

  • Age 52 started running marathons (26.2 miles)

  • Age 59 Retired from teaching. 

  • Age 62 Completed a marathon in all fifty states.Age 76 playing and singing for whoever will lend an ear.

        I have completed 63 marathons and many other shorter races. 

        I am signed up for my fourth Half Ironman in June of 2023 in 

        Salem,Oregon. Running, biking, and swimming, have always 

        been the motivating drive that gives me the underlying power 

        to keep improving. As Dizzy always said: “Keep On Keepin’ 

        On.”
